A Flat Tummy Work outs Traditional Beliefs

Here I would like to discuss some conventional ideas that are closely related to flattening the tummy, especially when a proper physical work out is being done.

1. The "Crunch After Munch" Myth

Along with a diet low in fat, exercising the ab crunches to strengthen and make firm your abdominal muscles work tremendously. Still today most people have at the back of their minds' that no matter whatever they eat they eat the whole day, a good and thorough physical activity at the end of the day would burn up all the fat and extra caloric intake they had during the day.

No matter how tough exercises you have been doing, if your fat intake is still higher you might not find your desired results. Rather, your belly might keep on bulging out.

Do you feel the storing of fat on your muscles?

This happened to me in the beginning when I started my exercise plan. I didn't cut down on my fat and caloric intake, and instead I started the crunches. After 3 months of regular exercise, I was shocked to find my bulging tummy. Whereas a flattened stomach was what I had been expecting after this rigorous work out.

After doing a lot of research in this regard, I concluded that it is not the exercise alone that would make a difference. Cutting on your rich-in-fat diet is equally necessary if you want a fully toned up waistline.

2. The Spot Toning Lore

I, being a slender person, enjoyed my figure fully until recently when I had begun gaining some weight especially in my middle part of the body, i.e. thighs and hips area. Although to me it was a pleasant change as it made my figure curvier, but sadly enough it caused me a protruding stomach too.

I only wanted to shed off those extra pounds from my stomach only, and not from my thighs and hips. For which I started taking the physical work outs for only my abdominal muscles by doing Pilates and crunches.

Later I discovered that the outcome was not what I had expected. I learnt through reading that focusing only one area of the body would not bring up your metabolism to the level where you would start burning your fat. Resultantly, the outcome of "Spot Toning" method would not inspire you to continue practicing it.

It is important to learn that increasing the metabolism of your body, while exercising is necessary as well as burning out the extra fat ALL over your body. View the ideal weight chart and BMI calculator here.

3. The Myth of Quantity

Even today, when a lot of information is very easily available, people still have some wrong concepts concerning especially the true exercising techniques. There are examples of those who take exercise as a routine for more than an hour, without considering the quality of their work outs.

A superb work out would be 4 sets of 20-25 crunches with 90 seconds resting time in the middle of each set. In this way you would prepare and tone up your abs more effectively, than doing 250 half done crunches.

4. The 6 Pack Myth

A wrong concept among people is to start the work outs in gym, whereas practically if you want to have a trim and beautifully toned up body, you'll have to consult your refrigerator and kitchen cabinets first in order to make a list of your diet.

Your primary aim is to burn or lose the fat, which can be cut down from your diet. Raise your protein intake and cut down on your fat rich foods, as protein helps in the building of muscle.

Having a protein diet, you can work your crunches as and when you want, but the consumption of high fat and caloric rich food would make you a solid six pack enclosed with fat.

Conclusion

Now having known to the common myths, you might have gathered some knowledge for forming your abs. It is related to the whole body fitness programme, and doing some crunches daily would not be enough to get you the outcome you have been longing for. Your bad eating habits should also be put right.
